Everything you need to know about starting your flight training and reaching your aviation goals in Fort Worth, Texas.
Getting Started
The easiest way to begin is booking a Discovery Flight in Fort Worth. You will complete a pre-flight briefing, take the controls of a training aircraft alongside an FAA-certified instructor, and log your very first hour of flight time.
No prior experience is required. Whether you are starting from zero or transferring hours from previous training, our flight instructors will guide you step-by-step through our structured curriculum.
All flight training and flying lessons with Bird Dog Flight Services operate out of Hicks Airfield (T67) in North Fort Worth. Training here allows students to avoid costly ground holds and tower delays, maximizing actual stick-and-rudder flight time while gaining comprehensive experience in North Texas airspace. Programs & Scheduling
Because we offer flexible, one-on-one scheduling, you can train at your own pace. Most students flying full-time finish in 8 to 12 weeks, while part-time students typically complete their license in 4 to 6 months.
Absolutely. Our scheduling is designed to work around your life, not the other way around. Whether you need weekend training or specific weekday morning and evening slots, we tailor your flight schedule to your personal routine.
The LOFT (Lift Off For Tomorrow) Program is our accelerated zero-to-commercial pilot pathway. It takes you from zero flight hours to Commercial Pilot with CFI/CFII instructor ratings in 6 to 9 months, preparing you directly for professional airline and corporate aviation careers.
Cost & Financing
Flight training costs depend on your training pace and chosen pathway. A Private Pilot License typically ranges between $12,000 and $15,000 based on standard FAA practical hours. We maintain transparent, pay-as-you-go hourly rates with no hidden fees, and flexible options through flight training financing.
We avoid the massive overhead costs of large, commercialized flight programs. By providing focused, one-on-one instruction, modern high-availability aircraft, and an FAA-approved BATD simulator, we help our students reach proficiency faster without wasted flight hours.
The Bird Dog Method
Unlike large flight academy mills with rigid schedules and high instructor turnover, Bird Dog Flight Services delivers personalized, one-on-one mentorship through The Bird Dog Method. You get consistent instructor pairing, well-maintained aircraft, and training tailored to your aviation career or personal goals.
You will train in meticulously maintained single-engine aircraft (such as our Cessna 172 and Piper Warrior fleet) equipped with modern avionics, as well as our FAA-approved Gleim BATD flight simulator for cost-effective instrument and procedural mastery. Explore our fleet on the fleet page.
